Fat Louie Fund is born!

The Fat Louie Fund is a tribute to my best friend, Luigi “Louie” Harris.

Louie, the quintessential pound puppy, was rescued in 2001. At the time he was thought to be approximately 1-2 years old and a Jack Russell/Mystery mix (which I now believe to be Welsh Corgi). He was discovered dumpster diving by the local dog catcher and brought to the shelter.

Amongst the barking brigade of black lab mixes, pit bulls and German shepherds sat a white, medium sized, peculiar and angelic looking pup with eyes that would make anyone’s heart melt, quietly waiting to be noticed. When our eyes met his tail immediately started wagging. When the door opened out bounded the oddest creature I had ever seen. With the head of a JRT stuck on a long body with stubby little legs, he reminded me of a centaur; Two creatures Krazy Glued together to make one. I was intrigued. When he trotted over, sat on my foot and stared up at me, I was sold. From that day forward we were inseparable.

After 10 years of perfect health, Louie was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma. On January 2, 2012 it was decided to let Louie pass with dignity and be spared of his pain and suffering. He was an exceptional dog, a wonderful companion and first-rate psychotherapist. I miss him every moment of every day and cannot wait to be reunited with him. Until then, I have made it my mission to spread Louie’s story in hopes of helping others like him out there who have so much to offer to anyone with a heart and an open mind.

Sometimes when we rescue animals, they end up rescuing us.

Because of Louie, I am inspired to help animal rescue whenever possible. Therefore, 50% of all animal accessory proceeds from my Etsy shop will go to an animal shelter in the Mid-Michigan area. For more information on the featured shelter and it’s furry residents please visit often.
